WAS IT WORTH IT?

In all, the quest to run 32 inch tires on our 2024 Yamaha YXZ1000R SS has been a fruitful one. The car drives excellently, and still retains an incredible amount of handling prowess despite the increased body roll delivered by the taller tires and softer suspension. The Weller Racing shocks firm up extremely well on big hits, and it carries itself well over medium-sized chop at crazy speeds.

The one negative to this has been tire rub. If driven slowly, the tires don’t rub, but if you drive the YXZ hard or use a lot of brake, the tires scuff the inner fender wells during full compression. We will have to do some light modification and reinforcement to prevent this from happening, but it is a slight rub.

This refreshed 6-speed YXZ has proven to be more than capable of operating on a larger than stock tire. The driving manners and ride quality are both impressive, and the car’s angry bumble-bee sound and crisp shifting transmission are enough to keep the driver and passenger smiling and laughing for miles. Where the YXZ used to fall short was in all-day comfort in the desert, which is not the case any longer. We have put over 600 miles on the car since we took it off the jackstands, and we are itching to rack up even more.
