2025 Honda Talon 1000X Features and Specs
Powerful 999cc twin-cylinder engine
Experience unparalleled power with our liquid-cooled 999cc inline-twin engine, boasting high horsepower, ample torque, and unmatched refinement throughout the rpm range.
Unicamยฎ cylinder head design
Using the same proven Unicamยฎ cylinder head design found in our championship-winning CRF450R motocrosser helps make the engine more compact, allowing us to position it for optimal weight distribution and ground clearance.
High lift, long-duration camshaft
Giving the engine a camshaft with a high lift and long duration helps transform the engine. Better breathing helps the Talon make more power and keeps that power coming all the way to redline.
Roller rocker arms
Roller-tip rocker arms in the valve train help reduce engine friction, facilitate higher, faster revs, and contribute to more efficient engine operation and power.
Large throttle bore size
Complementing the potent camshaft specs, our engineers also gave the engine twin 46mm throttle bores for more airflow and better breathing. Youโll feel it the first time you floor the loud pedal.
High-flow fuel injectors
More air plus more fuel equals more power. The engine’s hot cam, throttle body, and high-flow fuel injectors make it the complete package for total off-road performance.
Semi-dry-sump lubrication
Keeping engine oil away from the crankshaft helps eliminate windage losses, while the semi-dry-sump design also helps ensure more positive oiling under extreme driving conditions. The result is better engine lubrication and longer engine life.
Engine air intake
Clean air is needed to maximize your engine’s performance, which is why we positioned the air filter high over the engine in the rear and the air intake off to the side.
Dual-pin offset crankshaft
By offsetting the cylindersโ two crankpins by 270 degrees, the engine delivers a wide powerband and abundant torque, while counterbalancers help keep everything running smoothly.
Tuned exhaust
Improved intake and more fuel delivery require an equally tuned exhaust system, and this beast delivers. Not only does it provide some beautiful mechanical exhaust notes, but it helps the engine deliver smooth, even power.
High-capacity cooling system
When it comes to challenging terrains like rock crawling, deserts, dunes, and high altitudes, your side-by-side’s cooling can be put to the test. That’s why we equipped all of our Talons with a high-capacity system.
Oil-jet pistons
Squirting oil onto the underside of the pistons helps them run cooler and seal better. This combination allows the pistons to live longer and helps the engine make more power.
Rubber-mounted engine and exhaust
In addition to the suspension, we rubber-mounted the engine and exhaust system to insulate the cabin against excessive vibration. We also gave the engine four mounts to add strength under high loads.
FOX Live Valve 2.5 shocks
The FOX Live Valve model features cutting-edge semi-active FOX suspension that dynamically adjusts compression damping for each wheel. This system offers reduced body roll, smoother terrain navigation, and superior resistance to bottoming.
Independent front suspension
Dual A-arm suspension gives you 14.4 inches of front travel. Pair that with stellar ground clearance, and you will begin to understand two reasons why they handle so well in rough terrain.
Weight bias
A slight rear weight bias works best for optimal sport driving. This is why we set up the Talons with 44% of their weight over the front and 56% over the rear.
Shorter wheelbase
The 87.6-inch wheelbase contributes to this sport side-by-sideโs tracking while also giving you a super-smooth ride. At 64 inches wide and shorter than the Talon 1000R, the Talon 1000X emphasizes quick handling and maneuverability.
Electric Power Steering
Honda’s Electric Power Steering (EPS) technology keeps getting better. It eliminates bump steer, reduces fatigue, and provides added assistance in 4WD, lower speeds, and rough conditions. The system is specially tuned for sport-driving, and there are no belts or pumps to slip, break, or leak.
High-performance disc brakes
High-performance brakes feature 250mm discs at all four corners, squeezed by 34mm twin-piston calipers up front and 34mm single-piston calipers out back. Our Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) optimizes front and rear braking power.
Tight turning radius
Compared to the previous 1000X model, weโve given it a tighter turning radius, improving maneuverability, which makes loading, unloading, and navigating technical terrain easier.
Automatic six-speed DCT
Our automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) boasts a class-leading gear-driven setup, giving you manual or automatic control. It has efficient power delivery, true engine braking, and superior performance compared to belt-driven CVTs.
Advanced Transmission Logic
The brain of the DCT, Advanced Transmission Logic, senses how you drive and adapts. Relaxed drivers get earlier shifts, while sportier drivers will hold each gear longer. And when going downhill, you get true engine braking.
i-4WD
All Talons showcase the second generation of our exclusive i-4WD system. Think โiโ for โintelligentโ because thatโs precisely what it is. An industry-first brake-traction control system that helps maintain front-wheel traction even if one wheel wants to spin.
Paddle shifting
Steering column-mounted paddle shifters add performance and fun. They let you shift without taking your hands off the steering wheel, and in Automatic mode, they let you override the current gear.
2WD/4WD shift on the fly
With our torque-biasing brake i-4WD traction control system, you maximize traction when you need it and have effortless steering when you want it, all without the need for a diff lock.
Hill Start Assist
Hill Start Assist automatically holds you in position while you move your foot from the brake pedal to the acceleratorโthereโs no roll-back drama. It even works on the downhills, too!
Engine location
Engine placement is pivotal, situated behind the cab for optimal balance and neutral weight distribution, ensuring exceptional control.
Skid plate
Off-road driving can be challenging, and rough terrain can be unforgiving. We offer generous skid protection and a wide range of accessories to help protect vulnerable undercarriage and suspension components.
Front bumper
The standard front bumper offers a degree of vehicle protection other side-by-sides lack. But this smart design doesnโt compromise performance, as itโs designed to help slide smoothly over obstacles in rough conditions.
Recovery hook point
Built into the chassis design, this attaching point makes it easy to secure your SxS for transport and hook up a recovery strap when your buddy on some other brand of side-by-side gets stuck.
Built in the U.S.A.
The entire Talon lineup is purpose-built for the American market, right in America. Domestically and globally sourced parts are assembled at our Timmonsville, South Carolina plant.
Painted body
Painted body parts resist scratches and look better, so there’s no need to slow down for small brushes on the trail. See for yourselfโsolid and stylish!
Durable frame finish
Your new frame is fully treated inside and out with an electrostatic surface application during manufacturing and then powder-coated to resist chipping. It will look great for a long time.
Aerodynamic roof
The roof is designed to divert rainwater and is aerodynamically cooperative, allowing easy transportation, whether facing forward or backward on a trailer.
Full-coverage hard doors
Hard doors are standard, offering full coverage and excellent weather protection. They provide extra storage space with cupholders and secure compartments. Doors use a double-latch design thatโs rattle-free.
Mud and splash protection
The full-coverage doors and sealed-up passenger-compartment openings offer excellent mud and splash protection.
Driver/passenger protection
The standard roof and hard doors with side nets shield occupants from debris and help keep them inside the vehicle, while three-point seatbelts and emergency locking retractors enhance security. Seats are also four-point harness compatible for competition use.
Adjustable driver’s seat
Designed to fit a wide range of operators, the adjustable driverโs seat locks positively in position without wobble, helping make you feel more connected to the vehicle.
Comfortable seats
Designed to be the most comfortable in the industry, the seats feature a wide seatback and an even wider seat bottom, offering tons of lateral support. Theyโre even compatible with four-point harnesses.
Occupant Protection Structure
The vehicle’s Occupant Protection Structure meets ISO’s rollover protection standard with large-diameter tubing. Standard hard doors and quick-clip side nets help keep debris out of the cabin and occupants in it. Auto-style three-point seatbelts optimize passenger security with emergency locking retractors.
Twin-level front passenger footrests
Passengers have plenty of legroom, even for those over six feet tall and wearing bulky boots. The two-level footrests allow for solid bracing on rough terrain or relaxation while cruising.
Integrated inner door handles
All four doors feature an integrated inner door handle, another example of the Talon’s premium on comfort and convenience.
Passenger “T” grab handle
Your front passenger needs a solid way to hold on, and Honda got it right with the Talons. The โTโ handle resides up front and is quickly adjustable, solid, and rattle-free.
Large cargo bed
The cargo bed sits up, out of harmโs way, and easily accessible. It is big enough to hold a large 45-quart cooler with room to spare. It has a 299-pound capacity and six tie-down points.
Door nets
Door nets are now standard equipment and can be quickly and easily latched and unlatched to help protect you from the elements and keep you inside the vehicle.
Secure cup holders
Two cup holders in the center console and one in each door can hold a 30-ounce off-road standard-size travel cup.
Flag mount
On other side-by-sides, things like the flag mount are an afterthought โ not on a Talon. Our designers pay attention to every detail, and the Talonโs flag mount is fully integrated.
Loads of accessories
We keep adding more and more accessories every year and currently offer over 50 for the Talon 1000X line. You can add items like a full audio system, windscreens, winch, auxiliary LED lighting, body and chassis protection, as well as our line of quick attach Honda Pro-Connect offerings.
Accessory ready
It is easier than ever to install accessories due to the positive pre-wire from the factory under the front hood that easily integrates with our accessories.
Launch Mode
These are the only side-by-sides offering an automatic gear-driven transmission with Launch Mode. You wonโt believe how fast youโll come off the lineโand neither will the other riders.
LED taillight
We provided two dedicated 12-volt charging ports: one in the front and one for rear-seat passengers.
Easy-to-read LCD instruments
All our Talon models feature large, easy-to-read instrument displays, which host loads of information like speed, fuel level, and more. The displays are mounted on the steering column, so when you tilt the wheel, the instruments move, too.
Integrated switch panel
Weโve included a centrally mounted switch panel that makes adding accessories like a winch or additional lighting easier than ever. It also helps keep the cabin looking tidy.
