When Polaris dropped the news of their RZR Pro XP, one of the surprises was that it wasn’t 72” wide. Don’t worry….there is little doubt there will be a wider version arriving in the near future. But, until then, the 72” wide soldier representing Polaris is the RZR XP Turbo S. It’s only competitor, at this point, is the equally badass Can Am Maverick X3 X rs Turbo RR. If the longest travel and highest factory horsepower off-road machine is what you’re after, these two machines offer incredible performance with a factory warranty right off the showroom floor!
The new RZR Pro XP Turbo S checks in with 168hp, which falls nearly 30hp shy of the Can Am Maverick X3 X rs Turbo RR’s 195hp. Both machines deliver power through turbo-charged four-stroke engines linked to automatic CVT transmissions. The Polaris utilizes their 925cc twin cylinder ProStar, while the Can Am relies on the venerable 900cc three cylinder Rotax powerplant.
The RZR XP Turbo S features the Dynamix Active Suspension system. For those not in the “know”, this system utilizes Fox 3.0 Podium internal bypass Live Valve shocks, which allows the shock dampening to be electronically controlled on the flyr The Maverick X3 X ds Turbo RR also uses Fox 2.5 Podium shocks, but they require manual adjustment. Still, the Maverick’s Fox shocks have both high and low speed compression, as well as rebound dampening. The rears also feature a bottom-out control.
Both the Polaris and the Can Am use double a-arm front suspension, with the Can Am also incorporating a front sway bar. Out back, to deliver long-travel and durability, both the Can Am and Polaris incorporate their own version of a four-link trailing arm with a rear sway bar to reduce roll.
The Can Am Maverick X3 X rs Turbo RR features 30” Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires wrapped around 14” cast aluminum beadlock wheels. The Polaris RZR PXP Turbo S, however, rocks gigantic 32” ITP Coyota tires on 15” cast aluminum wheels. The Polaris does not utilize factory beadlock wheels like the Can Am.
Inside the cabin, the Polaris Rzr Pro XP not only gives you Dynamix 2.0, it also offers the Ride Command 7” display and Bluetooth connectivity. Both machines feature four-point harnesses to help keep occupants firmly and safely planted inside the cabin.
Currently, Can Am and Polaris are the only two manufacturers playing around in the 72” wide category. Without question, there are other manufacturers voraciously viewing this space. Whether any other manufacturers jump in remains to be seen, but we’re confident we’ll see a new Polaris 72” with even more horsepower hitting the stage in the short-term.
