La Familia Trujillo | Can-Am Livin’ the Land

This episode of Can-Am Off-Road  Livin’ the Land tells the unique family story of a white label agave producer with a tequila distillery in Tepatitlan, state of Jalisco. Juan Manuel  Trujillo, alongside his brother Jesús Trujillo run the Destileria Trujillo, originally started by his father. Once a worker in the fields himself, Juan Manuel and Jesus’s father had a dream to produce his own agave spirits. Relying on farm side-by-sides, the Trujillos have bet big on doing things the right way for the environment — and it has ensured their longevity.
As a contemporary white label tequila distillery that uses traditional Mexican influence and traditional methods to produce the high level spirits, Trujillo  distillery was created by the family father in 1968 as he harvested agave from a small acreage in Mexico. The sons now farm and harvest over 5,000 acres of agave cores that they run through their family owned distillery factory to then sell to the public. They are currently building a new 75 million dollar facility that incorporates new technology mixed with a number of old techniques such as the Tahona stone to crush the agave and stone ovens for their own label called Tequila Trujillo. Juan Manuel runs the factory with 160 employees, while his brother runs 200 workers in the agave fields.
